Suppose a consumer product researcher wanted to refute a manufacturer’s claim that their highlighters could write continuously for 14 hours. The researcher tested 40 highlighters and recorded the number of continuous hours each highlighter wrote before drying up. The results of her study found that the highlighters lasted an average of 13.6 hours with a standard deviation of 1.3 hours.

a.) Is there enough evidence to conclude that the highlighters do not write continuously for 14 hours? Use α = 0.05 as your significance level. Clearly label all steps of your hypothesis test.

b.) Compute a confidence interval that corresponds with the significance level. Is your conclusion for the hypothesis test supported by the confidence interval? Explain.
