Using Atomic Absorption I wanted to measure how much copper was in a vitamin. The total vitamin when ground weighed 0.9687 grams. I dissolved 0.1049 grams in a 100 mL volumetric flask and measured how much copper was in that sample. It said there was 2.448 mg/L of copper in the sample. What was the total amount of copper in the vitamin?

Ans:

The solution prepared was of 100mL volume and 0.1049 g of vitamin is added.

The amount of copper in the solution is 2.448 mg/L.

So in 1 L (=1000mL) amount of copper is = 2.448 mg

in 1mL  amount of copper is = 2.448 mg/ 1000

in 100mL amount of copper is = (2.448 mg x 100)/1000 = 0.2448 mg

So, in in 0.1049 g of vitamin amount of copper is = 0.2448 mg

in 1 g of vitamin amount of copper is = 0.2448 mg/ 0.1049

in 0.9687 g of vitamin amount of copper is = (0.2448 mg x 0.9687 )/ 0.1049 = 2.26 mg

Thus the amount of copper in 0.9687 g of vitamin is 2.26 mg.
