In aqueous solution, we can write

MnO2 + 4HCl ---> Cl2 + 2H2O + MnCl2

Or,

MnO2 (aq) + 4HCl ----> Cl2 + 2H2O + Mn^2+(aq) + 2Cl^-(aq)

Decrease in oxidation number is known as reduction and increase in oxidation number is known as Oxidation.

Reduction half reaction :-

MnO2(aq) + 4H^+(aq) + 2e^- ----> Mn^2+(aq) + 2H2O
