Macros can save time and energy but a wrong code could be harmful. You can use macros for database security but need to be very careful. I would advice you to do not use macros for DMLs. You can use Macros for view only with no harm.
Content using SQL macros can only be created or updated by trusted users and other users the ability to view the content. this is the only solution from my side.
You can use Macros to prevent SQL injection attacks by using parameter markers. This in only necessary when the SQL statements are partially constructed from user input.
Using Macros, direct access to a database circumvents application level security, so should always be considered. Even if you want to provide some level of access to the Confluence database, it is strongly recommended to create a separate data source for this access.
There is a large percentage of macro viruses that can harm you but most of them are not like it.
