Answer #1

Energy can be harvested from oceans in two ways :

1) ocean thermal energy

2) waves and tidal energy

ocean thermal energy

The thermal heat provided by the sun heats the surface of the ocean water thus thereby creating a temperature difference between the surface of the ocean and the layers beneath the surface. This temperature difference can be used to generate electricity by boiling some low boiling point liquid and then channelising them through the turbine to generate electricity.

wave and tidal energy

the tides are mainly produced due to the gravitational pull of the moon and the waves are generally produced due to large speed winds . These waves and tides carry energy which them which can be used to harness electric energy by constructively channelising these waves and tides on the turbines either with the help of channel system (which funnel the waves into a reservoir) or oscillating water coloumn system which uses these waves to compress an air coloumn in a container which further delivers the mechanical energy to the turbines to generate electricity.
