Answer #1

The initial setup of the compound microscope should be done without any specimen in the holder is a false statement. In the initial setup, the slide carrying the specimen should be moved around on the microscopic stage so that the specimen comes into the viewing area.

The initial setup of the compound microscope should be done with the 10X objective into place is true. For 100x maganification, the nosepiece should be turned to the 10x objective and then focussed. The 10X objective should be above the viewing area. After focussing under 10x, focussing should be done under next higher power objective.

The cytogenetic location of 6q21 is on the shorter arm of chromosome 21 is a false statement because 6q21 is located on the longer arm of chromosome 6. Here, 6 represents chromosome number, q represents the longer arm of the chromosome and 21 represents the position of the gene.

The cytogenetic location of 6q21 is on the left arm of chromosome 6 is a false statement because 6q21 is located on the right arm of chromosme 6 as the longer arm "q" is on the right side.

    1. Fill out the following table by indicating which general technique (light microscopy (LM) or electron microscopy (EM]) could be used to observe each structure or phenomenon. Put "no" in the box if the technique could not be used. If light microscopy can be used, name one technique (bright-field, phase-contrast, fluorescence, etc.) that you think would be effective. You will find some useful information in Appendix 1 of this manual and Chapter 18 of your textbook. Structure or phenomenon Could...
