In order to identify team ideas the basic steps to follow are as below

1. Need to develop the corporate values or goals together as a team
2. Ensure that team members have the opportunity to reflect on these values and they contribute thoughtfully
3. Allow all the ideas to be put on the table without being judgmental
4. Organize the ideas and collaborate shortlist the ideas which are aligned to the values or goals

Once the ideas are shortlisted it is important to integrate with the team values to ensure effective team performance. According to the T7 Model of team effectiveness, as proposed by Robert Eichinger and Michael Lombardo. The model talks about Internal and External Team factors.

Internal team factors include the following:

• Thrust
• Trust
• Talent
• Teaming skills
• Task skills

External team factors include the following:

• Team leader fit
• Organizational Team support

• Organizational Team support

In order to drive the performance there should be a “Thurst” which is the common goal and the the team members should back the manager ie have “Trust”. They should have the “Talent” and “Task Skills” to do the job and “Teaming Skills” to adhere and function as a team. Also the “Team Leader” needs to be good fit with the team and the organization should create an atmosphere and garner enough “Team Support” for the team to deliver.

Clear vision of the team is very much required for effective performance. The goals and KPIs need to discussed and documented using the MBO method of goal allocation. The team goals need to be based on SMART principles. Regular meetings should be conducted by the Team Leader to update and provide feedback on the progress. The leader should be able to motivate the team to perform.
