You want to prepare 50 mL of a 20% NaCl salt solution from a 100% stock. Calculate the amount of stock as well as the amount of water you need to use to make this dilution. Assume that you have unlimited volume of the stock.

final volume=50 mL (V2)

concentration of stock solution=100% (M1)

concentration needed=20% (M2)

we have to find out the concentration of stock solution needed (V1)

we can use the formula M1V1=M2V2

V1=M2V2/M2

= (50 20)/100

= 10 mL

so we need to take 10 mL from the stock and add 30 mL of water to it to make 50 mL of 20% NaCl solution.
