This question can be divided into two key parts. The first part can review what the current CSR initiatives are by each of these companies, i.e. Dominos and Papa John’s. The second part should look at if these CSR initiatives are appropriate in their line of business.
Dominos’ CSR model seems to be different for most of the countries. This means when it comes to CSR initiatives, they tend to approach the global scenario with a very transnational strategy. In many of the countries the company is merely present through franchising. However, their social responsibility initiatives are focused on people, community, environment and food. The key here is that they focus on areas such as diversity in employment, education/rural health initiatives, responsible sourcing and transparency in their operation. Papa John’s operates in similar model. However, their CSR activities are focused on Animal welfare, Sustainable operation model (reduction of use of paper, recycled cardboards, etc.), and maintaining a transparent supply chain system.
As a food and beverage company, both of them tend to focus a lot on supply chain. This is also warranted. Since the movement of goods, raw materials are considerably high and part of their daily operation, one of the major contribution to the overall global cost and environment is through their daily operation or supply chain. As a result, their approach on sustainable supply chain or responsible logistics is a good CSR initiatives. One part where these companies differ is that Papa John is focusing on animal welfare and ethical treatment of the animals such as Sows and Pigs while Dominos is focused on employee diversity. It is difficult to say which is more appropriate as both of them have their merits. However, considering that Dominos is more widely spread than Papa John’s pizza it is likely appropriate approach for both of them. Overall, their CSR activities tend to be revolving their own industry and this is a good thing. If every organization focuses on improving the situation on both the companies, they will improve the overall global needs.
