Organization is an amalgamation of various living beings. In this ecosystem, everyone has various motives and aspirations. In subtext of cultures, everyone is from different parts of world leading to conflict in working styles. Hence, it becomes imperative for the project managers to understand the motive and objectives of the other team members in order to run the project smoothly. The ability to influence these team members from various department is crucial to success of the project which otherwise might suffer due to friction in politics of the inter departments friction.
Politics is defined as an use of influence, persuasion, power, strategy etc. in order to change the outcome of an event, process, decision or direction. Corporate politics is an essential part of job in corporate world; it is one of realities, which sometimes people do not acknowledge for the sake of organization reputation. Corporates wants their reputation as an equal opportunity employer and hence avoid anything related to politics. In addition, politics is an inherent part of human nature so no matter how much corporates would want to brush it up under the carpet it is always going to be there. It is only fair to the managers that they acknowledge the reality and equip themselves with the necessary competencies to tackle corporate politics.
The project managers take care of plethora of services and responsibilities, which ranges from technical to functional. In addition, every project has specific requirements, which needs attention of the highest orders. These requirements not just require talent to be accomplished but sometimes they require influence within the organization. However, project manager’s needs to understand the dynamics before approaching the influencer to get the task done. Otherwise, this futile attempt might lead to delay in deliverables of the project, which ultimately will hamper the progress of the project.
