Expectancy can be defined as a belief which emphasizes on the fact that an increased amount of effort will lead to an increased amount of performance. If one will work harder then the result will be better as well. However, this gets affected by the availability of the right resources, the right skills for the job and the support required to get the job done.

The relationship of expectancy theory can be strengthened through an example at my work. Suppose, I am in the position of a manager for some time. My team performance is good but I would like to increase it further. Therefore, my action will be to tailor the rewards depending upon the needs of every one of my team. If one of team member commutes long might appreciate a single day work from home when he reaches his targets. Another example can be of an ambitious member who can be appreciated to lead a team of small members on a project if he completes his target within the deadline. Therefore, through this strategy, each member of my team will be able to achieve their personal goals and will be more likely to invest more time and effort into the job.
