Ch. 6 discusses how messages on social media sites are public, and that you never want to use language , a tone, or a writing style that would embarrass you (if your boss read it) or have legal implications. In your opinion, should your language on social media sites be scrutinized heavily or even held against you?
Answer: The social media sites are just like public places where we interact with others and hence there is a need that language used on these sites should be controlled. In my opinion my language on the social media sites should be scrutinized but not heavily. Also it should not be held against me. Despite the fact that social media sites are public in nature but they are virtual places where our expression is not same like in real life situations. Often the language used on the social media site is not the true reflection of our thinking and is influenced by the posts of the others. There are instances that we make personal comments on social media and forget that our language is visible to others as we cannot actually see others while they may see our comments. Hence at times because of the nature of the virtual communication environment we behave in a manner in which we would not behave in other real life situations. Hence the language on social media should be scrutinized but not heavily. Also it should not be held against anyone.
