Answer #1

Answer:-

i never been a victim and no one from my known people  victim, or potential victim, of 'Catfishing' Of 'Revenge Porn'

Catfishing:-

It's "onlinespeak" and means tricking people into relationships (usually romantic or emotional ones) using fabricated online identities.

The word came from the movie Catfish (2010), a pseudo-documentary about a man's online friendship with a woman who turned out to be very different from her Facebook profile.

Why do people catfish?

Jilted love - One of the reason was they were jilted or rejected and that turned them to Catfish behaviour. In recent research by YouGov 61% of Brits have had their hearts broken 79% of Americans had experience Broken Hearts. There are a lot of people in society with this problem.

Introverted/Low Self Esteem - There are those in society who have low Self Esteem and I was sad to read Anonymous answer here. So many people in our society look to other more confident, more attractive people as role models. This is the basis of the celebrity culture. This is completely wrong. We are all individuals and we need to value ourselves and measure ourselves against our own values and not those of the popular. I will never be happy if I measure myself against George Clooney. We need to manage our expectations realistically.

Soliciting Money - There are people who Catfish for money. Make friends online and then ask for money. If you love someone or think you love someone online why not send them money. Here is another fallacy and you don't need to give money to someone you love. Love and money are separate. Everyone needs to make their own money.

Entertainment - In comedy practical jokes are often used and it seems that lots of people don't know where the line is between a joke and hurting people. There are some Catfish that continue to lure and play with people for years online.

Moral Correctness - I saw an episode of Catfish: The TV Show | Season 5 Episodes (TV Series) | MTV where the Catfish was a male who was in a relationship and he was trying to lure men who were being unfaithful and then run them around for their "Sin" by pretending to be a so called beautiful empathetic girl.

How should you avoid becoming a victim of catfishing?

you don't want to read through the fluff skip to the last paragraph**

  1. You begin talking to them via the app, site, or online outlet.
  2. I ensure the profile has a minimum of 3 different pictures of the person. That is to say 3 different outfits and 3 different places. All pictures must clearly show the person's face, and at least one must be of the full body. If the profile doesn't have it, I ask for a social networking profile to view or I stop all communication.

3A. You exchange phone numbers or contact info for an app/program that will allow for voice calls. Then you have an actual voice conversation. The conversation should be like two friends normally talking, no whispering or anything that will allude that they're trying to hide from someone else while talking to you.

3B. Arrange a video chat. There are tons of apps out there that do this, Skype being one of the biggest names. And again this has to be a real conversation, not them hiding in a bathroom or whispering to you.

If you do these things, there's a good chance you won't be catfished. If you are, you'll know that more than one person was in on it. Now I will say there have been times where I skipped step 2 or 2 and 3A, but nonetheless a video chat is a big help at minimizing the risk of catfishing.

And so it's been said, some people don't like video chatting, but if you explain to them why you want to video chat, if they're desiring to invest the time into getting to know you, they'll put aside their differences and do it once to satisfy your need. I for one HATE video chatting because my phone is quite grainy and my computer doesn't have a webcam, but I understand its importance and just deal with it. As long as the person can see I'm me, they're usually happy to deal with a grainy picture.
