Because,

1) Using AS-path length attribute, the BGP router can always select loop-free route

2) The BGP router may contain more than one route to any one prefix, So in this case the router may use some elimination rules to obtain the one route

3) The elimination rules are obtained from AS-path

4) The prefix along with attributes are called as a BGP route

5) It's a inter-domain routing
