• Ethernet

Ethernet is the most commonly using network throughout the world. It have many advantages that enhance the popularity of the Ethernet. The Ethernet network is connected using Ethernet cables. The speed of the network can be increased by incorporating the good networking devices.

The pros of the Ethernet are the initial installation cost is low since the networking devices of Ethernet are of low cost compared to other networking devices. The wired medium provided high speed connectivity at low cost, higher security. The cons of Ethernet are, the cable laying required more time compared to other network set up, also the management is more complex. To increase the speed almost all network need to be replaced.

• WLAN

Wireless LAN is become getting popular by the introduction of mobile devices. The mobile devices connection with wired network makes them wired, to avoid this a wireless network connection is required. The WLAN makes the connection possible.

The pros of the WLAN network are very user friendly since no physical connections are required in the connection procedure, various security levels can be established, and the installation of the network is very easy. The cons of the WLAN are, the networking devices are costly when compared to wired devices, low security since passed through open medium, high cost per speed required.

• VPN

VPN or virtual private network can be categorized as a computer network even though it is created through other networks. The VPN enable to create a homogeneous network through a heterogeneous network.

The pros of the VPN network are, it create a homogeneous environment in a heterogeneous medium, low cost connection establishment can be possible for companies that placed in many locations, low cost. The cons of VPN are, since it connected through various medium, the security is less, the set up procedure is complex.
