Mucosa is present both in esophagus and stomach

Esophageal epithelium mucosa is made up of non-keratinized stratified squamous.

Use: it is used for protection and lubrication to avoid friction of food in esophagus.

the junction with the stomach, the stratified squamous epithelium of the esophagus makes an abrupt transition to the simple columnar epithelium of the gastric mucos

Stomach: mucosa contains specialized cells and glands that produce hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes to help digest food. The mucosa in the stomach release mucus that helps protect the lining of the stomach from the acid produced for digestion.
