Briefly explain why it is critical that molecular weight be controlled? From practical point of view, what is the result if Mw is too low or too high? How can you control the Mw?
The question asked here is why it is critical to control the molecular weight
To control the molecular weight of a polymer is very important because the properties or most of the properties of polymer are depending on the molecular weight
In order to gain required properties of our polymer we can either increase or decrease the molecular weight
In general with increase in molecular weight physical properties are also increased.
If the molecular weight is too high or too low it will not possess the required properties that a polymer should have
So it is necessary to obtain that sweet spot for molecular weight so that we can have our required set of properties.
By increasing the degree of polymerisation or by decreasing it or by varrying the concentration of monomer or the catalyst the molecular weight can be controlled.

A Freezing-Point Depression experiment is done using 2 different test tubes to find the molecular weight of an unknown mixture. Tube 1 consists of pure Lauric acid, and Tube 2 consists of Lauric acid + an unknown solute mixture. From the calculations of this experiment, the molecular weight of the unknown acid can be found. A) How would the loss of some Lauric acid from Test Tube 1 have affected the calculation of a molecular weight? Would the calculated molecular...
