Do you think Romanticism in the arts is cause or a reflection of the late 18th and early 19th century revolutions?
Romanticism spread across Europe only at the end of the 18th century but the age of reasoning and the enlightenment era had started way back in the 17th and 18th century. When religion was kept away from the mainstream society, the concept of classical arts that had strict rules became obsolete. Romanticism tried to portray the ordinary life and valued ordinary people thus bringing art and literature down to ordinary people too. Thus, romanticism is only a reflection of the other factors.
