In a workplace, Are unions still necessary? Explain. How have unions affected your workplace (or not)?
The unions were made to protect the rights of the employees. The
rule of law was low in the gone days and hence the employees see
power into the unions. Nowadays the source of information is there.
The rule of law and the presence of the information on an issue
make an employee self-dependent.
In my point of view, the unions are useless in the current era. The
reason is competition. The companies are forced to reduce the cost
of their products and services. The unions tend to increase office
politics. The control of the employer is not on the unionized
employees properly and hence the unionized employees are difficult
to control and hence they are less productive. The unionized
employees get paid more than non-unionized employees. These are
some reasons due to which the overall cost of the product and
services increase and the company gets failed to deal with the
international competition lets say China, India, Bangladesh, etc.
So such companies are difficult to cope in the unionized
environment.
I work in a non-unionized environment. But if the union was present
then I will not be a part of the union. The reason is that due to
politics the favorite one of the leaders gets the promotions and
other benefits who are undeserving.
