Need help on a few questions with an explanation

1. Draw an “infographic” that that would help someone understand the entire range of EM Radiation. Include both wavelength, frequency.

2. Every object emits EM radiation of some sort and the hotter the temperature of the object, the higher the frequency produced. What type of radiation are YOU producing most of right now?

3. An astronomer shines a laser at the moon which bounces off and reflects back to a detector on earth to determine exactly how far away the moon is (yes, they really do this). Given that the speed of light is 3.0×108 m/s, and the moon is 348.4 million meters away, how long does it take the laser to travel to the moon and back?

4.The sun produces 3 main types of UV radiation: UVA, UVB and UVC. Most of the UVC radiation is filtered out by our atmosphere so most of what generates the risk of skin cancer is UVA and UVB. Given a frequency of 6.8×1015 Hz. Calculate the energy, in joules, of the photon using Planck’s equation.

5. The greenhouse effect occurs when UV radiation passes through the earth’s atmosphere and is converted to infrared radiation, which is then trapped by the atmosphere. A UV wave has a frequency of 8×1014 Hz. What is the wavelength of this radiation? (Hint: what speed does all EM Radiation travel at?) Write your answer in nanometers.

Answer #1

2) All the bodies having non zero temperature emits thermal radiation which includes all the electromagnetic radiation. Humans especially produce infra red radiations which have frequencies lower than visible radiations.

3)Given: speed of light c=m/s, distance between moon and astronomer

d=m

we know that ; This is the one way time, so the time taken for the laser to tarvel from astronomer to moon and back to astronomer is 1.163+1.163=2.326s

4)According to Planck's equation E=hf, where E is energy in joules, h is plancks constant= and f is frequency

5)Electromagnetic radiation always travels with the speed of light given by and given frequency

From Planck's equation where is the wavelength
