Answer #1

Eukaryotic Chromosome Packaging

  • A positively charged protein known as Histone, is responsible for eukaryotic chromosome packaging.
  • At the basic level, the negatively charged linear DNA molecule is wrapped around histone protein to form nucleosome (like a beads-on-a-string).
  • Nucleosome gets packed to form supercoiled 30nm chromatin fibre.
  • They then forms loops.
  • Loops then further coils to form chromosomes.
