Acetylation, Methylation of DNA

Epigenetic inheritance or epigenetic regulation or chromatin remodeling or histone modification are all cinemas terms. They signify the inheritance of certain characteristics which is not explained on the basis of sequence of DNA. They depend upon the modification of histone proteins which are associated with DNA. These proteins are basic proteins rich in lysine and arginine. Addition of specific chemical groups like phosphate, acetyl, methyl, glucose and others at specific amino acid of histone proteins leads to change in gene expression. So, acetylation and methylation are both a type of histone modification.

Degradation of messenger RNA that are no longer useful occurs at the level of post transcriptional regulation.

Alternative splicing occurs at the level of RNA processing.
