Write thoughtful comments to Rama's work:

Rama's work:

I have completed my 80 hours, woohooo! Halfway done and very happy but yet a little disappointed. This week I was able to sit on a few more consolidated meetings when it came to specific patient information, diagnosis and course of treatment. In these meetings I got to observe how the communication between departments or managers were fabulous or when and how their communication fell through. I also observed who the main leaders were and how their act of leadership took place in the meeting and one on one time with the patient.

My knowledge of policy development has greatly increased. I have observed and obtained the process from start to finish with updating policies throughout the hospital. There are many obstacles when creating or updating a policy that needs to be accomplished before it can officially be published. I have also gained knowledge that our department (Infection Prevention) does not have seniority over the physicians who get to sway the policy for whatever is convenient for them. I am not going to get into the whole situation but it is a downward spiral that is going to be hard to come up from.

Aside from being short-staffed in every department here at Wesley, the other main cause of our issues is our communication. Our communication between the CEO, CNO, various departments, managers, leaders and the clinical staff is awful. The newest policy that went active Monday the 24th, half of the committee staff had no idea about. So, is this policy even correct?

Just as it has been for the first week, the health care environment here is still an absolute mess. There is still construction on almost every floor and it cannot be avoided as majority of them are repairs and/or updates. To give you a better picture, a few weeks ago a pipe burst above the entrance way of the PICU department and totally flooded the whole department. Therefore, all the patient had to be relocated and the length of construction is TBD. This does not help as our communication is not the best along with our short staff.

Next week is a new month and it just happens to be the last month of my internship. I am excited to be like a sponge and absorb all the new information I can but I am also excited to take my knowledge and also get a job at either hospital's in the Wichita area. Three more weeks and I can close this chapter and open a new one.

Answer #1

Thoughtful comments to Rama’s work:

- Rama had done a commendable job of completing 80 hours successfully as an intern.

- Rama had learnt many things from the internship such as attending consolidated meetings about specific patient information, enhanced knowledge of policy development etc.

- Rama had observed issues/concerns regarding the healthcare center that needs improvement such as construction work on every floor, communication lapses, short staffing, etc.

- Rama has been very observant as an intern and his comments would enable the hospital to improve in service and reputation.

- Personally, I would like to thank Rama for sharing his point of view. It really takes courage as an intern to express his true feelings about the hospital to others.

- It is OK if the hospital is short staffed and lacks good policies and procedures, you as an intern should grow with the hospital by overcoming these challenges. As a leader you can guide and direct the hospital and the staff towards achieving a common goal-success in all aspects.

Define the problem: At the company I currently work for communication is a huge issue. No one seems to directly communicate and oftentimes things are missed or people’s feels are hurt. There are three marketing departments that work on separate projects, but oftentimes have to work cross functionally together. There is often times where one department head will tell me one thing and then another one something else. This usually has to do with an assignment I am working on...

Working in the Gastroenterology department, we have to take call at night from 5 pm to 2 am. We go in for emergency procedures only. Just a few weeks ago I was on-call and one of the doctors calls me at 1:50 am and of course I woke up and answered and she told me “We have a case in the ICU, patient is having an upper GI bleed.” We go in to scope the patient and unfortunately we couldn’t...

PLEASE USE DETAILS... In the last employee satisfaction survey, the CEO became aware of growing feelings of mistrust between employees and managers. Hiring practices are also under scrutiny and criticism, because allegations of nepotism have been leveled at the company. For these reasons and others, employee turnover and absenteeism is on the rise in all four divisions. Staffing problems have made it difficult to meet customer expectations as the demand for company products grows. So far, you are seeing inconsistencies...

Can you guys make comments on this post I think its a great idea that Apple created an application on smart phones to have patients medical records handy. One of my reasons is because it is time efficient since patients have easy access to schedule appointments, request medications, or view their records or lab results. With this technology it is easier for a patient to schedule an appointment or request an appointment rather than calling the health center or having...
