The director of human resources at an automobile assembly plant is not satisfied with the performance of recently hired employees. To improve matters, he decides to use an employment test to screen applicants. A group of 14 new applicants is given the test and hired. Three months later they receive their first on-the-job ratings by supervisors. The correlation between test scores and job ratings is found to be +.41. Can the director of human resources claim that the test successfully predicts job performance? Use a = .05 and a two-tailed test.
