Importance of decision making:

  • With effective decision making, there will be better utilization of resources in the organization in an effective manner.
  • With on time decision making, the problems and challenges can be faced effectively.
  • With decision making comes long term business growth and success in the competitive market.
  • The organizational objectives can be achieved with the help of correct decision making by the leader.
  • Decision making is responsible to facilitate innovation among employees as in participative decision making their opinions are also asked for.
  • The overall efficiency of the organization increases to a large extent when decisions are make collectively.

Role of organizational leader:

  • An organizational leader is responsible to direct all the employees towards common goals and objectives.
  • A leader is someone who helps employee transform their behavior and help them self direct towards achieving goals.
  • A leader helps in resolving any kind of disputed between the employees effectively and on time, without being biased.
  • A leader should be able to solve any kind of problems arriving in the immediate or near future, by applying innovation and ideas.
  • A leader should play the role of information sharing with his employees with regard to any decision or task involved in the organization.

As far as my experience on solving basic and complex problems is concerned, I am a very organized and well planned sort of person and tries to make plans for any kind of contingencies. The solutions to different problems are pre fixed, hence flexible in nature. Moreover, long term and complex problems are resolved with care, innovation and high level of patience and experience gained from past events and taking others as an example.

Problems that exist in the current organization:

The current organization I am working is an Information Technology (IT) company. Following problems can be seen:

  • The employees working in different departments are not cooperative and does not involve in team work and coordination.
  • The employees often fight over different roles and responsibilities assigned to them as there is no role clarity.
  • The employees are less motivated and not self directed as the leaders do not ask for their opinions while making decisions, rather impose decisions on them.

How leaders resolve such issues, and are they effective:

  • The leaders try to resolve such issues by making different departments inter dependent on each other for resources and decision making by making teams by intermixing employees from all departments. Doing this, the employees will feel connected and work collectively.
  • While distributing the roles and putting responsibility on the shoulder of employees, the leaders try to make the roles as clear as possible to the employees so that no confusion exists in future.
  • Leaders on some cases try to use participative decision making and involve employees in making decisions regarding the issues concerning them. This will increase motivation of employees to great extent.

Yes! The problem solving approach used by the leaders is effective for the organization as it helps in increasing team work and coordination among the employees and making the departments inter dependent on each other. On the other hand, it enhances role clarity and thus confidence of the employees. Also, the overall motivation level of employees increases to a large extent when participative leadership style is followed.

More generally, research in organizational behavior has tended to ignore the theoretical and methodological significance of context in the examination of work attitudes and outcomes (Johns, 2006).
