Calculate the equivalent mass of ammonium formate given the proportion: 7.5 mmol ammonium formate per mmol of chalcone.

(assume 200 mg (0.2 g) of Chalcone was obtained)

Ammonium Formate Molar Mass: 63.0559 g/mol
Chalcone Molar Mass: 236.297 g/mol

Answer #1

Given that moles ratio of ammonium formate to chalcone: 7.5:1 mmol or mol

moles chalcone = mass of chalcone / molar mass of chalcone = 0.2g / 236.297 g/mol = 0.00084639246 mol

hence as per given molar ratio, moles ammonium formate will be = 0.00084639246 mol x 7.5 = 0.00634794347 mol

now convert moles ammonium formate into mass ammonium formate by multiplying moles ammonium formate with its molar mass

mass of ammonium formate formed = 0.00634794347 mol x 63.0559 g/mol = 0.4 grams

Answer: equivalent mass of ammonium formate = 0.4 grams
