Scenario: On her way home from school Cheri was in a near fatal car accident. She lost a lot of blood and was taken by life flight to the Cleveland Hospital. Her medical history revealed a history of fatigue, episodes of tachycardia, delayed healing and sometimes syncope.

1. The blood loss from Cheri has caused her to develop what type of anemia?
2. Explain how the loss of blood might lead to her current anemia.
3. Due to her current anemia, what might her red blood cells look like under the microscope? What other kind of test will confirm her type of anemia?

Answer - according to ICD 10 trauma induced anaemia is also known as acute posthemorrhagic anaemia .

Due to sudden loss of blood during trauma the available number of red blood cells reduced drastically and the amount of delivered oxygen to the tissues also decreases , which causes air condition known as hypovolemic shock. The grade of hypovolemic friend on the amount of blood lost . During shock the patient skin become cold and clammy .

Due to current animal the red blood cells will look normochromic normocytic.other test which can be done to confirm anaemia are MCH and MCHC .

If her blood group is B positive she can receive blood from donor most preferably B positive or O negative.

On discharge from the hospital she would be put up on the the medication such as antibiotic and painkillers to reduce the pain at the trauma site and doctor would also prescribe medication and diet to increase red blood cell production.
