Answer #1

It’s true that justice and injustice depends on the law which govern them. This is because certain actions that are considered to be just would become unjust over a period of time and certain actions that are unjust would become just later depending on the law. It is also because certain actions are considered justice by some people and injustice by other depending on the religion, culture, race etc. It would also mean that laws would be put to the test of time and if they stand they would continue or else they would also be changed.

Although Hobbes believed that we are all egocentric and self-centered, I constantly see people in the world bending over backward to help others. A great example would be of a story I heard on the news. The minor details escape me at the moment, however, the gist of the story was that a young entrepreneur was attempting to secure some funding for his business when he was rejected by the bank. For some reason, he took this very personally and...

Conflicts Government, including the criminal justice system, is supposed to be answerable to the people. However, there are times when the "law" and the "will of the people" may conflict. This may be due to evolving social preferences that lawmakers have not yet caught up to, or it might also be due to different communities having different standards. Resolving the conflict between "doing what the law requires" and "serving the will of the people" is often not a black-and-white decision....

Social contract theorists say that morality consists of a set of rules governing how people should treat one another that rational beings will agree to accept for their mutual benefit, on the condition that others agree to follow these rules as well. Hobbes runs the logic like this in the form of a logical syllogism: We are all self-interested. Each of us needs to have a peaceful and cooperative social order to pursue our interests. We need moral rules in...
