each type of molecule absorbs a particular wavelength of light. red blood cells absorb light at 400nm. when light is shown on a tube of red blood cells, the tube appears red. Based on this observation, do u think that wavelength for red light is 400nm?

Answer #1

Ans: No,

Light rays of particular wavelength is absorbed by the object (here RBC). Since light is an energy there will be loss of energy as heat. Due to loss of energy object will release light waves of higher wavelength ( because energy is inversely proportionate to wavelength; as energy decreases wavelength increases)

In RBC, haemoglobin consist of heme group and globin part. Heme group consist of iron bounded heterocyclic porphyrin ring which imparts red colour to RBC

HENCE the absorbed wavelength is 400nm and released wavelength is ~700nm

A microsope slide showing agglutination when blood is mixed with antisera. our red blood cells are much stronger antigens and large aggregated clumps will be readily visible when agglutination has occurred. If you have neither A nor B antigen on your red blood cells, you will have no agglutination of either antisera and therefore the cells are blood type 0. Figure 4 shows a picture of aggluti-nation when cells clump or aggregate. No agglutina-tion is a smooth suspension of cells...
