Initial response - Provide a brief overview of the divisions of the nervous system. Your overview should examine anatomical divisions as well as functional divisions, and include how these divisions relate to each other. Provide a hypothetical situation that involved the detection of stimulus and a reaction, and relate your hypothetical situation to your summary of nervous system divisions.

Answer #1

The anatomical divisions of the nervous system includes the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system(PNS).The CNS includes the brain and spinal cord while the PNS is composed of the  nerves that arise from the brain and the spinal cord known as cranial and spinal nerves respectively. The functional division consists of the autonomic nervous sytem that functions controls and coordinates the involuntary activities of the body done by different organs such as heart beat, blinking of eyes, sneezing etc. It has been  further divided into sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. While the sympathetic nervous system referred to as the "fight or flight" system, the parasympathetic nervous system is referred to as the "rest and feed" system. While sympathetic nervous system deals with quick response, parasympathetic nervous system deals with slow action.

When we touch a hot plate, the nerves in the spinal cord send the stimulus of hot touch to the brain and the cranial nerves in the brain manipulates the response and the action to remove the hands is sent immediately to the muscles of the hand via motor nerves.and we remove the hands at once. The involuntary nervous system can react quickly to changes, altering processes in the body to adapt.Second example is when our  body gets too hot, your involuntary nervous system or the autonomic nervous system increases the blood circulation to the skin which in turn makes us sweat more so that our body gets cooled down.Coming to sympathetic nervous system , our heart starts to beat fast when a dog comes running after us and we start running fast, breathing fast so as to respond well to this situation and escape it.Parasynpathetic nervous system example would be salivation in response to good food.

The neurotransmitter selected is Dopamine. PART 1: Nervous System Homeostasis Neurotransmitters are responsible for communication between neurons to ensure that cognition is maintained; the body is able to instantaneously maintain homeostasis to a threat; or store sensory input for later retrieval (form memories). These chemicals do this by providing a stimulus to either open ion channels that lead to depolarization (excitatory) or hyperpolarization (inhibitory) so as to allow the nervous system to perform the function it is required to do...
