An outpatient clinic treat patients with different types of issues and experiences uncertainty in patient demand, types of illness, etc. Major resources it uses are doctors, nurses, admission staff, etc. Should the clinic aim for the same level of utilization for its nurses and other staff as its doctors? Clinic should aim for the higher utilization of its doctors in comparison to the nurses and other staffs, because demand is highly uncertain and nurses are less expensive than the doctors. So, the outpatient clinic will have more number of nurses that will deliver the services to the patients. At the same time doctors, will be highly paid and patients will come as outpatient to take advice from the doctors. Hence, higher utilization of the doctors means more patients are reviewed and doctors have paid back the clinic in return. It will result into a higher utilization rate of the doctors.
