Is there a difference between education and training? How does an organization determine if learning has occurred?
Education and training refer to a similar concept of transfer of learning with the major difference being that education caters towards the foundational aspects of a subject while training is usually task-specific and undertaken to implement the process of change in an individual’s level of knowledge and understanding of their subject.
In order to determine if learning has occurred, we can utilize the following:
1. The attention of the individual while performing what they have learned.
2. Direct correlation with the performance of the task for which we were training.
3. Visual confirmation from the instructor can be considered as a viable factor in learning transfer.
4. The cognitive abilities of the individual can be used as an indicator of the successful transfer of learning.
5. Social ownership, or how an individual makes use of their learning outcome to teach others can also be used to determine if learning has occurred.
6. Theory tests can be conducted and can act as the most data-backed values which represent learning outcome in an individual.
