Sex-linked character, an observable feature of an organism that is controlled by the genes on the chromosomes that determine the organism's sex. Each individual has a pair of sex chromosomes; females have XX while males have XY, one member of the pair is inherited from each parent.

So sex linked characters can either be X linked or Y linked.

So notation used for sex linked characters is as follows-Let us say

Eg, B- for black

b - brown. and the following characters is X linked ,then it is denoted as,

XBXb means the female has black hair as black is dominant. Similarly we can have genotypes like XbXb ,XBXB

If the character is Y linked then it can be denoted as-

XYB

So this is how we denote sex linked characterstics.
