Successful aging refers to getting to the final stage of life with content and happiness after retirement. All the developmental theories, especially, Eric Erikson's psychosocial development refers to this stage as integrity Vs despair. It's all about completing the previous stages successfully by being competent, achieving success by being generative, being healthy and accomplishing all the familial responsibilities on time. This would bring a kind of satisfaction and happiness as people retire. Robust aging also refers to being healthy, following a healthy life style, engaging in activities, socializing etc. Collective societies take care of the elderly at home and the elderly feel that aging is good. In the individualistic and materialistic societies, aging has a negative connotation as it is equated to losing health, isolation, loneliness, social connections and loved ones. This is changing as time pass by and most of the communities engage elders for voluntary work or work that doesn't require physical strength.
