Answer #1

The mitosis takes place through prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase and in the same respective order in the onion root tip:-

1. Prophase: In this stage, the chromosomes become condensed and become visible and the spindle fibers start to form. The nuclear membrane is seen to be disintegrating.

2. Metaphase: In this stage, the spindle fibers get attached to the centromere of each of sister chromatids. The chromosomes align themselves along the center of the plane of the cell. The nuclear membrane can now be seen to be completely disintegrated.

3. Anaphase: In this stage, the centromeres start to split and the sister chromatids begin to migrate towards opposite poles of the cell.

4. Telophase: In this stage, the chromosomes are clustered on the opposite poles of the cell. The nuclear membrane can be seen reforming. The cell plate forms between the two daughter nuclei.

5. Cytokinesis: In this stage the cytoplasm divides equally and 2 daughter cells are formed.
