If an industry knows that its product causes the premature deaths of millions of human beings, then that industry is morally responsible for ceasing production of its product. Proper medical evidence supporting the correlation between tobacco usage and increased rates of lung cancer, respiratory tract cancers, cardiovascular disease, heart disease, and lung cancer, emerged in the report of the Royal College of Physicians in 1962 and culminated in the report of the US Surgeon General in 1964. Therefore, the tobacco industry was morally responsible for ceasing production of its product beginning in 1964. The tobacco industry did not cease production in 1964, but instead engaged in an campaign of deceit and denial.
Therefore, the tobacco industry is (massively and obscenely) irresponsible.
Is this a good argument or not? Give compelling reasons for the position you decide to take
Yes, of course, this is a good argument because it's true and evident that tobacco causes many disorders. It's consumption may result in deaths as well.
Any producer or marketer has to the the concerned responsibilities. The situation mentioned in above short case elaborates these related issues.
Merely displaying mandatory aspects on packages like " Tobacco kills" and " tobacco causes cancer" are not sufficient. Any company/ producer expecting profits from the business of injurious or hazardous products like tobacco must take the whole allied responsibility.
Hence tobacco industry is irresponsible.
