A phagocyte is a cell which attracts , engulf ,adhere and ingest the foreign bodies when they attack the human body .

Process of phagocytosis can be divided into activation, binding, ingestion , and digestion.

In the process of phagocytosis by the process of chemotaxis the cell move into the area of high concentration of antigen molecules. When the phagocyte cells come nearer to the antigen the activation of these cells occur , cell such as B, NK and white cell are the phagocyte cells . As they activates it starts to bind with the antigen . In the process of binding , the receptors on the surface of the cell starts binding to the antigen . After they bind it starts to ingest the antigen by expand and sorround the antigen molecule. Here vescicle will be formed . By the process of digestion the enzyme which is present in the vescicle break into simple components . By exocytosis the waste particles are removed .

The purpose of phagocytosis is to eliminate the antigen molecules such as microorganisms , protein molecules etc.. By phagocytosis it protects the body from infection.
