The binding of ligand to a ligand gated ion channel wil' result in the opening of the channel for allowing the flow of ions to cross the membrane. Example if ligand gated ion channel is Acetylcholine receptor which is present on postsynaptic cells.Upon depolarization, Na+ ions move in and this is how action potential is generated. Inhibitor of acetylcholine receptor is alpha- bungarotoxin and cobra toxin.
