Preoperational stage - 2 years to 7 years

Concrete Operational Stage - 7 years to 11 years

Theory of conservation - The understanding that volume and number remain the same even when their physical form has been altered.

Children in Concrete Operational Stage tend to be more confident and assertive in their answers than the children in preoperational stage. Since, they develop logical reasoning in this stage (Concrete Operational Stage), they are able to understand the theory of conservation whereas a child in the preoperational stage lacks this ability and see the world through their eyes only.
