In critical path method, we begin by assuming infinite resources. Why is this necessary to the method, and why do you think this could be an issue later in a project planning process?

Answer #1

In critical path method, critixal path method is defined as the path with total float equal to zero. Whereas float is the time by which any activity can be delayed. The critical path is having activities with zero float therefore any of activities cannot be delayed otherwise project as a whole will be delayed. Therefore it is assumed that resources are infinite which will help in achieving the schedule as per critical path.

Assuming the number of resources as infinite can cause a problem later in project planning process as resources can not be infinite in any project. Resources are the money, time and man power which cannot be infinite. Due to resource constraints, various resources can be needed to switched from one activity to other activity. If the resources are assumed to be infinite and proper planning of using the resources is not done then project delivery can be late.

Which one is not correct about the critical path method (CPM) in project management? Duration of a project is equal to the duration of its critical path. There could be more than one critical paths. Crashing a project is shortening the duration of the critical activities. The tasks on the critical path can be delayed without delaying the project duration. Slack times of activities on a critical path are zero.
