The burning rates of two different solid-fuel propellants used in aircrew escape systems are being studied. It is known that both propellants have the same standard deviation of burning rate; σ1 = σ2 = 3 centimetres per second. Two random samples of n1 = n2 = 20 are tested; the sample mean burning rates are 8 and 24 centimetres per second respectively. Construct a 95% upper bound on the difference in means μ1 − μ2. Please report your answer in 2 decimal places.

Answer #1

95% upper bound for 1 - 2 is

(1 - 2 ) + Z * sqrt [ 2 / n1 + 2 / n2 ]

= (8 - 24) - 1.96 * sqrt [ 32 / 20 + 32 / 20 ]

= -14.14

1 pts Question 9 The burning rates of two different solid-fuel propellants used in air crew escape systems are being studied. It is known that both propellants have approximately the same standard deviation of burning rate, with a value of 3 cm/s. Two random samples of size 20 each are tested; the sample means are recorded as 18 and 24 cm/s. What type of hypothesis tests would be most appropriate if we wanted to test the hypothesis that both propellants...

The combustion rate of two solid propellants that are used in exhaust systems is studied emergency of airplanes. It is known that the combustion rate of the two propellants is distributed normally with standard deviations σ1 = 3 cm / s and σ2 = 2.9 cm / s. Two samples are tested size 20 random samples, one for each propellant, and the resulting sample means for the rate of combustion are: x̅̅1̅ = 18 cm / s and x̅̅2̅ =...

The burning rates of two fuel propellants, types A and B, are studied. It is assumed that the burning rates for the two propellants are normal, with standard deviations A = 1.08 cm/sec, and OB = 9.85 cm/sec. A random sample of 350 specimens of propellant A, and a random sample of 380 specimens of propellant B are taken. Assuming that ha= 5.3 cm/sec and JB = 4.2 cm/sec, find the probability that the difference of the sample means XA...

    2. Comparing two population means (known sigmas) Aa Aa Consider a pool of home mortgages. Prepayments of mortgages in the pool affect the mortgages' cash flow, so mortgage lenders, servicers, and investors all have an interest in predicting mortgage prepayments. Mortgages may be prepaid for a variety of purposes, including selling the home, taking cash out of the property to fund home improvements or other consumer expenditures, or refinancing the mortgage to change the monthly payment schedule. Narrow your focus...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
