CAS9 CRISPER SYSTEM IS A UNIQUE TECHNOLOGY THAT ENABLES GENETICISTS AND MEDICAL RESEARCHERS TO EDIT PARTS OF THE GENOME BY REMOVING ,ADDING, OR ALTERING SECTIONS OF DNA SEQUENCE

SOME BACTERIA HAVE A SIMILAR BUILT IN GENE EDITING SYSTEM TO THE CRISPER -CAS9 SYSTEM THAT THEY USE TO RESPOND TO INVADING PATHOGENS MUCH LIKE AN IMMUNE SYSTEM.USING CRISPR THE BACTERIA SNIP OUT PARTS OF THE VIRUS DNA AND KEEP A BIT TO HELP THEM RECOGNISE AND DEFEND THE VIRUS NEXT TIME IT ATTACKS.SCIENTISTS ADAPTED THIS SYSTEM SO THAT IT COULD BE USED IN OTHER CELLS FROM ANIMALS INCLUDING HUMANS.

APPLICATIONS:

1.CRISPR 9 HAS A LOT OF POTENTIAL AS A TOOL FOR TREATING A RANGE OF MEDICAL CONDITION THAT HAS GENETIC COMPONENT INCLUDING CANCER AND HEPATITIS B.

2.MANY OF THE PROPOSED APPLICATIONS INCLUDE EDITING THE GENOMES OF SOMATIC CELLS AND REPRODUCTIVE CELLS.

3.THEY HAVE ALREADY BEEN USED TO TREAT HUMAN DISEASES ON SMALL NUMBER OF EXCEPTIONAL OR LIFE THREATENING CASES.
