Mycobacterium tuberculosis is multi-drug-resistant and a disinfectant-resistant . Mycobacteria are most resistant organisms to various disinfectants due to presence of characteristic waxy outer layer of the bacteria . Waxy coating on the surface of cell is due to the presence of mycolic acid. This waxy coating prevents the entry of disinfectant into the cell . It also protect the bacteria from other harsh conditions .
