Ligand is s substance which binds to a target site of a proteins and brings some conformational changes in the protein. The binding depends on the charge, structure of the ligand and the target protein etc. The binding occurs by intermolecular forces.

All hormones, neurotransmitters and drugs are ligands.

All signalling molecules in the living system are ligands. Epinephrine binding to the receptor on the cell surface is a ligand. It is endogenous ligand. Epinephrine is a hormone produced by the body.

All drugs are exogenous ligands. Asprin drug is one such ligand. Asprin also binds to receptors of the cell and bring changes in the cell functioning.
