Pure water is one of the important sources of life on earth. Nevertheless, many people waste water. How can you encourage people (beginning from your own community/college/neighborhood/family members) to alter their habits and probably lifestyle, so that they consume less water?

In proposing your plan, you must back up the choice of strategies with research. Explain clearly what you intend to do. Have the below mentioned steps in mind:

a.       Identify the problem area in an introduction. Refer to problems that we face in many countries originated from the lack of water.

b.      Identify your goal and state your plan briefly.

c.       Decide and state how to measure the extent to which the goal is achieve. In this particular case, for example, the electricity & water bill should show reduced fees. Also, the questionnaire or interviews’ responses can be analyzed.

d.      Explain in detail and illustrate your actions and strategies step by step especially those which you are going to use to encourage a particular change in the attitude or behavior. For example, explain which principle of argument/persuasion you would use. Also, if you want to have an awareness presentation, you must include the PowerPoint or the speech you prepared. The same rule goes for questionnaires or interviews you intend to carry out to your target group to see how much water they use daily/weekly/monthly.

e.      Analyze the gathered data.

f.        Conclude and recommend.

Water is one of the most precious resource available on earth. Despite its receding level, people to treat this resource as never ending material and that’s where the actual issue begins. If we look at the recent incidence of Capetown in South Africa, which has been declared with “Zero water availability”, we can easily understand the magnitude of this problem.

Hence to understand this issue with more clarity and practicality, we can define the water scarcity problem and consequences of water wasting to the current generation, in a more interactive manner. Considering our Glaciers are dwindling on every passing day and environment is also facing a lot of man-made challenges, days are not very far when the world war will be fought for staking the claim of potable water.

To achieve and control this impending menace, some of the very basic steps which can be taken forward would be-

• Running the mass awareness program
• Showing the documentary on water conservation approaches to all the young and matured generation
• Keeping a tight vigil on water consumption by every house hold
• Imposing a hefty penalty on habitual offenders
• Promoting people to adopt water conservation through rain harvesting method by default.

Out of above proposals, I would work on the Water conservation method through Rain harvesting technique. This is the most rewarding method to replenish the ground water. In most of the areas, where people are getting high rain water, storing the same makes a lot of value addition in scaling up the water reservoir level. This can certainly be achieved, government and inner conscience of the people work in perfect sync with each other.

Hence it can be understood that there could be several measures to Save water from unnecessary wastage, but out of those methods, creating general awareness and promoting rain water harvesting could be the most viable and practical option.
