The progressive era of the US refers to the period from 1890s to 1920s and the goals of this era were to remove corruption and to introduce a smoother working political system and for that it was important to target problems caused by urbanization, industrialization and corruption in the political system. The socialists and the unions gained strength in the period after 1900s and they organised strikes and fought for the labour, to increase their wages at first this movement was only done at a local level and later on it spread to the entire nation . The unions and socialists also called progressives they mainly compromised of middle class people who were exploited by the capitalists and all together they fought for a more progressive US with higher wages and where everyone received a higher and more equal piece of the cake.
