Answer #1

  • Compound C will have more intermolecular hydrogen bonding, due to hydrogen of NH2 substituent of 1 molecule with nitrogen atom of same substituent of same molecule
  • compound A is the most non-polar compound due to lack of polar groups or electronegative atom like nitrogen and oxygen as are present in B C and D
  • Compound C will have lowest RF on TLC plate. Because it is highly polar compound and it will not travel distance with non -polar mobile phase of TLC
  • In distillation setup option B is right, flow of water should be opposite to vapours direction.

    3. If the TLC plate development had stopped before the solvent front reached the top of the TLC plate (i.e. maybe it reached the middle of the TLC plate when it was stopped, instead): a) Would the Rf values have been affected? Experiment Write Up Proposal You will write up a synthesis procedure for one reaction that could be potentially run in a face- to-face Chem 2321 lab session. Your proposal will include an introduction and procedure. The procedure will include step-by-step instructions for running the reaction (including reaction monitoring), work-up. (product isolation and purification), and analysis (characterization). You will need to include sample calculations for percent yield and provide sample spectra analysis. You must upload your proposal as a single document...
