1. EMTALA (Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act)
the Congress enacted this act in 1986, to ensure the accessibility of public to emergency services regardless of their ability to pay. The section 1867 of this Social security act imposes specific obligations on the hospitals offering emergency services to provide a medical screening examination if requested or examination or treatment in emergency situation, including active labor, regardless of the patient's ability to pay.
The law ensures everyone will get emergency treatment regardless of their ability to pay.
2. Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act
This act of 2005 was published in 2008 and came to effect in 2009. The Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act (PSQIA) is aimed at protecting health care workers reporting unsafe conditions. The law has been created to encourage the report of medical errors , maintaining the confidentiality of the client. The confidentiality breach will be fined. The law authorizes the Agency for Health care research and quality to publish the list of patient safety organizations.
3. Affordable Care Act of 2010
This act was sanctioned in 2010 is an all inclusive coverage. The act requires all citizens to apply for health insurance and individuals who fail to secure insurance will be levied penalty. Some protected groups are exempted from this.
The enterprise with more than 200 workers must provide health insurance coverage to the employees. The citizens can review and compare the insurance plans. The medical field can provide quality services to the growing population while the care expenses will be reduced.
