Insulin is secreted by beta cells of Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. Insulin is a small protein derived from pre-prohormone,have a half life of 6 minutes. Insulin binds with the receptors of target tissues and enhance the glucose transport across the membrane. Insulin decrease the blood glucose levels by enhancing the uptake, use,and storage of glucose. The effect of insulin related to insulin secretion. When the blood glucose levels is high the beta cells produce more insulin to maintain blood glucose levels. The insulin production inhibits when the blood glucose level is low.
