10).

A case-control study is an observational retrospective study in which two groups are compared on the basis of exposure to the cause of disease attributes, At the end of the study, the results are compared with the initial status. The two groups in the study include people that are exposed to certain conditions or diseased (cases) and another group includes the people that are not exposed to the condition (controls).

For example, when studying the effects of stress on the occurrence of hypertension, people who are exposed to stress are the cases and those that are not exposed to stress are the controls. Both groups are observed for the development of hypertension, so the role of stress in the pathogenesis of hypertension can be determined.
